Can anything beat the Dell 20" LCD for it's price?
Looking for an LCD soon and was wondering what to get. Dell always has sales on their monitors and you can often find the 2000FP for $800 or less. Is there anything out there that can beat it's performance for that price (no smaller than 17")?

Could you supply a link with that price, I searched the Dell website and found the monitor but no price listed. $800 for a 20" LCD that sounds like a good deal to me.

ALL LCDs are way overpriced. LCD technology is old so i think companies should make their products more affordable. Laptops have boastes lcds for a long time and were selling for less than 1000 bucks with 15" (nice) lcds.

I disagree - the price of LCD's is at an all time low, as is the price of CRT's, as a matter of fact. I remember the first 15" LCD we sold cost us $1000, and that wasn't that long ago.
The age of the technology is not an issue here - LCD's have a high production cost because of low yields, a lot of material gets scrapped due to flaws. The larger a screen you are trying to build, the more likely you will have flaws that meet rejection criteria. Sure - today a laptop with a 15" TFT can be had for close to $1000, but I have a laptop with a 15" from 1998 - it's a 233 MMX and the original price was $4600. The same $1000 15" LCD I mentioned above can be had for under $250 today. Jeff - my personal favorite large LCD is the KDS RAD-9 (19 inch), Newegg has it for $579 but it's out of stock. Looks like they have removed the DVI input though - time to rethink my choice here. For a 20 inch, any style input, $800 is a steal. I do prefer DVI, the extra clarity is quite apparent. You do need a video card that has a DVI output. |

I just got a system through my job that included (2) 18.1" LCD monitors. It was an optiplex workstation, but had the following:
-80GB HD -P4 2.4 GHz -1.0 GB DDR RAM -CD & DVD+RW -Nvidia 64MB Quadro Price Tag: $1,500 The LCD Monitors are great, but I'm not planning on using both, I'll probably sell the one and upgrade the video card & sound |

It's a Dell 18.1" Ultrasharp LCD, sells for $600 on their site, I already sold it to someone here for $500. You just missed it if you were interested, sorry. I'd prefer watching my DVD's on that as opposed to my regular TV now. It's a nice screen.
