Video card troubles.
I am trying to install this new video card that I got. Its the Geforce FX 5200 PCI. Before i tried to install it, I went into bios and did all the configurations that I've been told to do from the manual and the other people that have tried to help me. When I try and install the rest of the drivers for the new video card. I get an error right when the rest of the drivers are about to be installed. The error was "An error occurred while launching setup. (0x80040702)" I went to device manager and I removed the drivers for the onboard video. I was finally able to install the rest of the drivers for the new video card. It asks me to restart and I say yes. After it loads the windows 98 screen, the screen goes black and it just sits there. I then reset my comp and before I get into windows, it keeps asking me to install the drivers for my onboard video. Its gets so annoying and fustrating. I go into the system tray and right click on the onboard video's icon thingy and i click to uninstall. I get this RUNDLL type of error that says
"Error in setuplib.dll Missing entry: UnInstall" Here is a website that has all the info that you guys will need to figure out how to disable the onboard video. You can even download the manual that came with my motherboard. http://www.amptron.com/html/m841xlm.html |

There should be a setting in the bios to disable the onboard video.
Also, welcome the PcMech!

Thats the problem. In the bios, there is no setting that will disable the onboard video.

IF someone actually went to the website that I had put in thats on the top of this thread, then you might actually be able to find something. I'm most likely looking for a jumper or something that I can disconnect but I don't know which one.

if that website actually provided your manual, perhaps someone could find out where it discusses disabling onboard video. If's can be kind of big sometimes.

I didn't see anything in the manual about disabling the onboard video. Try setting Primary Graphics Adapter to PCI.

I had the same problem with a onboard video. If you haven't already go to device manager and set the onboard video (vga) to disable.

alright sorry about my sarcasticness but this problem has been bothering me so much and I want to be able to use my new video card.......
But yeah, i've already messed with that primary gracphis thingy and setting it to PCI which it should've been. I've messed with everything except for the stuff in the features setup. Where it lets you disable onboard this and onboard that and blah blah blah. That area, and yes the website does let you download the manual. Here's the exact link to download the manual which is in acrobat reader format or whatever. http://www.amptron.com/manuals/K7-841XLM/841s13.zip

omg monkeybitch. Thank you so much. what you said worked. The onboard video is finally disabled. When i let the comp restart with the monitor plugged in the onboard video. It wouldn't even go pass the windows 98 screen, and now it won't even let the monitor turn on lol. But I still get that error when I try installing the rest of the video card's drivers. That error that says "An error occurred while launching setup.(0x80040702) Do any of you guys know what that means?
The video card is the Geforce FX 5200 PCI. |

I get an error, in wordpad, whenever I try to open that manual.
I checked Acrobat on several other sites and it was working just fine. |

yeah i heard about other people having trouble opening up that program. Some people have told me that they have been able to open it in microsoft word but I don't know......its worth a try. But yeah, if you guys find anything, that would be a great help. I'm still trying to figure out why I get that "an error occurred while launching setup. (0x80040702) when I try and install the rest of the drivers using the cd that came with the video card.

Instead of using the CD, download the new Nvidia Detonators and try them.

i use this upgrade to install all the drivers for my video card. I say yes for my comp to restart and when the screen goes black after the windows 98 screen, it just sits there and doesn't do anything. I then restart my computer and then i get into safe mode. I get this error saying that my adapter doesn't support my color and resolution and whatever. Even though it was as low as it can get (Colors: 16 Screen Area: 640 by 480). You guys know anything about this? The video card is a Geforce FX 5200 PCI (the verto brand or whatever).

Exactly what "upgrade" are you using? If the drivers on the CD don't work and the Nvidia Detonators don't work, maybe the card doesn't get along with your motherboard chipset or something?

How many watts is your system power supply? How much system ram do you have? In other words, does your system meet the minimum requirements of 128mb ram and a 250w power supply?

The red switch is the input voltage selector, don't touch it.

whoa...if you say so....what would happen if i did? Also, what have you guys figured out so far? i was finally able to use the installation that was on the cd, i just copied all the files that were on the cd and put it on my harddrive and i was able to use its installer. I get the same bull**** and everything. Then, when i try using that installer to reinstall the drivers, i get this message that says that my video card or adapter isn't compatible with the current drivers or something like that. You guys know anything about that?
