Problems With ATI 9000 PRO

I built my grandson his computer using an Asus A7M266 with 512MB. I originally put in the ATI 7000 video card. This was running all his games very well. Then somebody bought him the Tom Clancey's Splinter Cell game and it wouldn't work with that video card, it needed an upgraded card. So I puchased the ATI 9000 64MB PRO. Splinter Cell works now, but about 5 of his other games run awhile and freeze up. Sometimes right away, sometimes after 15 minutes. The same thing happens when he's just surfing the web. What puzzels me is that some of the games work. Any suggestions for what I should be looking at?

Thank You Bob H.

Try updating the drivers and DirectX.
