Use CDex, it's easy to use and can convert WAV to MP3. Hope that helps.

RazorLame is one I like to use. Very easy and does batch conversions.

Is there a way to do it with my current software. I want to avoid downloading as I am running low on hard drive space.

CDex takes around 3MB, which you'll more than make up for after you convert your files over to MP3.

RazorLame takes up about 1.6MB

Depending on its source, A 3 min song in wav format could be apx. 30-300MB. Convert that to MP3, it could end up to be 2-4MB.
