vid card res. vs monitor res
I am looking to buy the ATI AIW 9700 and it says that it has max res. at 2048 x 1536@ 60 mhz refresh rate. The monitor I am looking to buy is the NEC FE991sb and it says that it has maximum Resolution: 1792 X 1344 @ 68 Hz because of this differenec in resolution and refresh rate does this mean that I will not be taking full advantage of my vid card with this monitor?

Hi redwing3139,
Each spec is the "up to" limits. The vid card can handle "up to" the spec you listed, as does the monitor. So, with that monitor, the highest you could run the vid card at is the 1792x1344 @ 68Hz. To run the vid card at it's upper limit of 2048x1536 you would need a monitor that supports "up to" the same specs. But.... Unless you have super eyes, or a very large monitor, you'd most likely need a magnifying glass to see anything at those res's anyway!. I run 1152x864 on my 19" monitor (18 viewable) and people complain it's too small. Anything higher, then I complain it's too small.... HtH TwoRails |

I believe that it would take about a 21 inch or better. Have you taken a look at newegg for monitors?
Here's a link to their CRT page listed by size: http://www.newegg.com/app/manufactor...alog=19&DEPA=1 HTH TwoRails |

Also consider that if you are gonna be running at a 60 Hz refresh rate, your eyes will be killing you. What's the point of pushing the card as far as it will go? The higher you push it, the slower it gets.
I'm running a 19 inch CRT at 1280x1024, 85 hz, and not a hint of flicker. My monitor is capable of 1600x1200, and I tried it, I needed a magnifying glass to read the labels on the desktop icons and the 60 Hz flicker gave me a headache within 5 minutes. |

Agreed.
The quality of a monitor is not it's highest resolution, it's the highest resolution it'll do above 80hz. |

The price is right, you have had no problems with it I assume
anything else you would recommend in that price range? |

Newegg had 955DFs (samsungs) for 205 with free shipping about two weeks ago, but were sold out. If the price is still the same you might check on one of those to see if they have em back in stock.
It will only do 1024x768 at that refresh rate, but 205 for a 19" flat monitor isn't a bad deal no matter how you cut it .

I'm using a total cheap@$$ CTX PL-9, cost me $150 last summer. If you want to run higher than 1280x1024 and not go blind, start looking at 21 inch monitors.
