How to determine a missing Codec from a video file
Trying to play certain video files in different viewers (IrFanView for starters) and some won't open because a certain Codec is missing. Others with that same extension will play.
How do you determine what Codec is needed with a given file before you try to open it other than looking at the file extension? |

Hi,
What type of file is it (i.e. extension)? How long and how big is it? Does it play in Windows Media player? If so, if you go to the clip properties does it tell you there what codec's it is using? HTH |

The file in question isn't on my box. I believe it is either a AVI or a MPG extension. It didn't play in IrFan Viewi and I don't think it played im Media Player. I think he said it played in Real Player or something close to that.
