Question about ATI Radeon 9800

i'm planning to get an ATI Radeon 9800 and i would like to know would it be compatible with the asus p4pe that im getting?

Nope you need a MB that has 8x AGP.

Sorry thats not correct.

The card will be compatible downwards, your board as far as I know supports AGP 1.5v, OK you will only be able to run the card @ 4x, but there is no reason and no evidence that 8x is any better at the moment, in the future we will see the benefits of 8x, but by then you will probably have a better board anyhow.

As I see it, as long as you get a decent card now you are buying for the future, as best you can. IMHO

so, getting that video card means, it will still be compatible with the mo/bo, but it will run at 4x, correct?

It is better if you get a MB with a 8X AGP slot, If you haven't bought the MB yet then it's best to look for one with a 8x slot. Anyways If I were to buy that pricey card than I would get a MB with that spec.

8x agp is not that important considiring most demanding games run at 2x

I wouldn't hold your breath... the FX when released was supposed to be the "Radeon Killer" and fell far short.... will have to wait and see what the results are.

HAL, the results are in. The 5900 ULTRA bested the 9800 Pro. PC world ran a few tests already.
