Vid Card for now...?

I need to pick up a vid card to complete the system I'll be sending off for at the end of the week. I'll probably upgrade in a few months when prices come down, but for now I need a nice card that'll get the job done on counter-strike, war III, etc. What do you guys think? I need to keep it under $150 for sure, the closer to $100 the better.

How well do those cards perform? I was looking at the ti4200's...although notable more expensive than the ones you're recommending.

If its just something to hold you over for a for a few months I dont see why you would want to spend any more. Unless you have someone that you know will buy it from you.

It will run CS with ease. War III without a hitch......the GF3. Not to sure on ATi though.

ATI radeon 8500 = Same GPU as the 9100 but less costly. ATI Radeon 9000 is even less money but slower gpu than the 8500/9100 one.

all can be found for about $100 or less.

The 8500 is the same exact card as the 9100, and where are you finding it for less? The Sapphire 128mb OEM 9100 is $85 at Newegg, the 8500LE (which is slower than an 8500/9100) is $87.

Yeah I'm looking to shell out $200 bucks or so in the next 2/3 months on a nice card when they come down some, but I don't want to short change myself in the meantime. If it'll handle C&c Gens, CS, War III and some vid editing, I'll take it for now.

You may be pleasantly surprised at the performance of the $85 ATI 9100.

glc: a local store has 8500LE 64MB's for $75, 8500's for $70, 9000's for $85 for some stupid reason, and 9100's for $80. i guess it depends on where you look.

p.s. what is the difference between the 8500 and the 8500LE? i thought they were pretty much the same. different gpu or something??

The LE is clocked lower. I'm also quoting 128mb cards, by the way.

I dunno. I suppose it might matter who makes the card and what quality ram is used.

If you're lucky and get the right "LE" it can reach the default core/clock speeds of a non LE card but that's about it.

i read some reviews and apparently the power difference between the 8500/8500LE is so minimal that it's not really noticable anyway.
