GeForce 4 Ti4200
I am going to buy this card, but can someone tell me which one I should get? Someone told me he doesn't trust the XFX GF4's reliability and design, and I know the XTASY ones suck. My system is gonna be Pentium 4 2.4 Ghz, 40 gig HD, and 512 MB RAM. Can someone tell me the exact model GF4 Ti4200 I should get?

I've always thought the 128mb Asus GF4 Ti4200 was pretty good. That's just my humble opinion though, others who actually have Ti4200's may be able to offer some more insight. HTH

$5 and 4x vs. 8x AGP.
Last GF4 I built with was an Albatron - good card. I've also used Gainward and PNY, no problems. |

I can see the difference but I want to know what the difference between AGP 4x and 8x is, is that how many AGP slots there are?

You will only get 1 AGP slot on your board.
4x and 8x relate to the multiplier of the channel, similar to the multiplier on your CPU. As yet there is nothing in the software market that makes use of the 8x , but it would give you a certain amount of future proofing. Don't know if anybody has actually benchmarked the 2 against each other, will have a look around later if I have time. |

At the moment the difference between 4x and 8x is cosmetic. I've seen benchmarks using both and there is no difference. By all means, buy a 8x compatible mobo or card but don't expect any performance gains.
Another great Ti4200 is the Abit Siluro GF4 Ti 4200 OTES. Sorry Kissfan, but I would give all the Gainward Ti4200s a definite miss because Gainward had serious problems with a capacitor on some of these cards. I had two in a row that were faulty. Obviously, not all the Gainward Ti4200's had this problem, but, having said that, unless you know what to look for, it is impossible to know whether you have a bad one - and because of dealers and wholesellers backstocks - there could still be bad Ti4200s out there. This problem does not affect the Gainward 4400, 4600, or 4800 model. I exchanged mine for the Powerpack 4800SE and it it works and overclocks very well. HTH |

I'm using the Abit Siluro GF4 Ti 4200, and it runs very well.

i have an aopen gf4ti 4200 Aeolus 128mb 8x (8xagp or something else? i dunno actually)
http://english.aopen.com.tw/products...sti4200_8x.htm (the top one in the link) got winproducer and windvd with it. Run it on an abit nf7s mobo, athlon2200+,265mb pc2700, win2kpro. So far all games i tried run great ( sof2,nolf2,dtm race driver, c&c generals, battlefield, ...) only cfs3 stuttered a little in heavy fights with maxed detail, 1024,768 (guess i need some more ram for that?)
