I've heard that the new mobile GeForce FX Go cards are pin-compatible with the old mobile GeForce 4 cards. Would be it possible for me to purchase a laptop built for use with the old GeForce 4 but without a graphics card installed and install the GeForce FX Go myself? How difficult would this be and where/how could I learn how to do it?

I just want to know how I would go about installing the new card myself in a lat. D800 laptop from Dell I am buying, which won't support the card until next year. Would it just snap in or would the installation be more complicated such as involving soldering or something a skilled computer technician should do?

It's not a card, it's a chip soldered to the motherboard to the best of my knowledge - and I don't even think a skilled technician could change it. The statement that it's pin compatible is a convenience to manufacturers so they don't have to change their assembly rigs.
