connecting pc to a/v receiver.

I would like to be able to watch video on tv from my pc using a 50' s-video. My motherboard is an Asus a7n8x deluxe. I have 2 options:
1) find a splitter, 1 connect to my computer speaker, and 1 to the 50' rca audio cable to my receiver.
2) using a 50' digital coax.

Well, although I prefer an optical output, my mobo only has a digital coax output.

My question is.. by connecting the digital coax from my pc to the receiver:

- would I be able to listen to analog source? such as mp3 etc..
- would that affect the mini plug analog out of my sound card?
