Error Connecting To Server Cannot Download Codec
I have got some .avi files that are not playing on my desktop but that do play on a laptop. I have Win2000 pro installed on both machines. The .avi movies were not playing on my desktop and I thought it was because I only had media play 6 on it where the laptop had version 9. So I upgraded to version 9 for the desktop. Still the avi movies would not play on the desktop.
When I try to play the movie on the desktop while I am online, it pauses and then tries to connect to a server and says "error connecting to server cannot download codec." I checked my codecs on the Desktop and compared them to the laptop. They are somewhat different. The desktop doesn't have the DVx 5.01 codec, the Microsoft RLE Codec and the Microsoft Video 1 codec, The DESKTOP has: Cinepak Codec by Radius Inc. Indeo codec by Intel Indeo 1.263 Video Driver Indeo video 5.10 Microsoft RLE Codec Microsoft Video 1 msh261.drv msh263.drv-0 --------------------------------- The laptop has: Divx 5.01 Codec Iccvid.dll Indeo video 5.10 ir32_32.dll msh261.drv msh263.drv MS-MPEG-E MPEG-4 Video Codec msrle32.dll msvidc32.dll msyuv.dll XviD MPEG-4 Video Codec WHERE CAN I GET THE CODECS I NEED? Thanks,
For the moment I just tried to download the DVIx codec and installed it and it worked but kind of sluggishly with Media Player. The download came with a Dvix player and I tried it and it worked perfectly full screen. Not bad considering their requirements are a 450mhz machine and I'm only using 266mhz. I'm not so sure I have 8 mb of video ram either. The DivX Player requires the following minimum configuration to run: * Windows 98 SE, Windows ME, Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000, or Windows XP * Pentium-II 450 MHz or faster processor * At least 64 MB of RAM * 8 MB (or greater) video card * 3 MB free hard drive space I got this from the http://www.divx.com web site. They offer a free version of all this. I wonder what if there is any difference in their $20 pay version. Last edited by Harry; 05-26-2003 at 03:18 PM. |

Either spelling works, believe it or not.

The paid version of DivX is only useful if you plan to actually create DivX video. If you're just using it for playback, there's no need for the paid version.
The Nimo codec pack has pretty much everything you'd need, but there are conflicts between a few of the directshow filters in it, so be sure and read the warnings that pop up when the installation starts and only install the ones denoted as "only install if" if your system meets the criteria listed. |
