I ordered an LCD monitor from Dell, and then I found out that a crt is better for graphics. I ordered the E171fp or something like that, it only has a refresh time of 25 milliseconds. In theory does that mean my maximum frame rate will be 40fps no matter the set up? Does anyone who has LCD have problems with ghosting of quality? By the way I play alot of CS, MOHAA, and such. I have my setup in my sig so will the setup help the display at all?

I heard also that CRT monitors are better for gaming, I don't think it would be 40fps especially with a Radeon 9800. I personally like better CRT monitors like for CS which I also play looks good. My brother has a LCD and plays CS on it and looks almost the same just a little more better render on the CRT then the LCD. But thats just for gaming, like once on the internet or desktop his screen looks much much better.

it varies monitor by monitor. yes, CRTs are better for gaming. ghisting will occur on most if not all LCDs. with LCDs you have to just see for yourself, no real specs can tell the story of that LCD monitor. first person shooters especially should be run on CRTs unless you want smear.

I have a 35 ms LCD and for any fast-paced FPS (like Tribes) I have to switch to a CRT because aiming is just impossible on the LCD. Playing CS on the LCD is possible, but ghosting is noticable and if you are used to playing it on a CRT, it can be annoying.

well ill give you a second point of view.
i love looking at LCD monitors, even while gaming. they just look nice, everything is smooth and perfect, almost soft looking. if you dont mind the smear/ ghosting (which usually isn't UNBEARABLE) then you'll have a fine monitor. in addition, Dell is known for making very high contrast LCDs which play nicely into the graphics department. I dunno, i might have even considered an LCD if it weren't for me being broke... Also, have you ever seen a PS2 played on an LCD??? it is beautiful! |
