I captured my first VHS 12 min clip. I captured it using Mpeg1 format. I can replay the clip fine from the HDD.
I ran the clip through Video Factory Editing s/w just to see how it worked and then rendered the clip and burned to a cd. Of course, I can't get the cd to play. When inserted, I have to go to the drive, open the cd and all I get are a few file folders. WMP says it can't play the CD 2.0 format. What is that? Since its my first time, I feel I've made some simple mistake but can't figure where at. Capturing and editing terminology is all new to me. Can someone point me in the right direction? TIA Carl |

Hi,
don't know about Video Factory, but the freeware VCDeasy from www.vcdeasy.org does its job fine, so you can try it. The MPEG-1 stream itself needs to be 352x240 with 29.97 fps for a NTSC VCD. You should check that, too. RJ

There are lots of guides (and free software too) at http://www.doom9.org that you might wanna read up on.
Most of it is geared toward DVD but there's VCD/SVCD info there too. |

RJ,
Ah, I see one problem. I used 320X240 instead of 352X240. The fps is 29.97. Before I do another, I'll look into VCDeasy and also read some on Xayd's link. Thanks to both of you. Carl |

Well fellas, got one more question, actually, there will be alot more.
After all the reading, there seems to be two ways to go on capture resolution. 352X240 and 352X288. Which one? Carl |

Hi Kubie,
Should be 352x240 for State side. But, do you have the viewing software installed?? Without it, you will not be able to see / view your VCD even if it's done correctly! All you'll get is the directory sturcture as it's being recognized as a data CD, not a VCD. HtH TwoRails |

Are you trying to play the VCD in a computer CD drive, a computer DVD drive, or a consumer DVD player?

Hi G,
Just trying to play it in my computer cd-rom right now. I haven't been recording sound with the tape. Do I have to have sound? Nero says I do. Carl |

glc,
First, thank you for the link. I printed out and followed the instructions, (everything I saw was just like the instructions), except whem WMP opened, I saw the first frame of the movie only, however, the cd-rom was blinking like it was playing and the WMP status bar was moving and the time was ticking off just like any video. Only showed the first frame. I can only conclude that either I am capturing incorrectly or not using Nero correctly. Glc, you sure got me closer then I was and I thank you. Carl |
