Angry Driver troubles

Oh boy did I mess up my drivers. I just use a onboard 8 meg vid card on my comp and when I did a system recovery I had to update my drivers again. Ive done it before and worked out fine but this time when I went to update the driver after downloading the needed files and restarted my comp I am now in 16 bit color, cannot go beyond 640x480, and now under display it says (unkown) monitor under a (unknown) device. I am still a comp newbie so I think I might of accidently unistalled the driver somehow.

Does anyone know a quick fix to this problem or some kind of solution by anychance? I recovered my comp back to windows me and useing a s3graphics prosavge type drivers. I also didnt recieve any kind of floppy or disk for the driver or vid card.

try to go into your device manager and see if you can see your vid card. try to download the drivers again.

I downloaded the 2 newest set of drivers from
http://ranger.s3graphics.com/swlib/370drv/ and saved them in a compressed folder in my documents in a folder I made called drivers. I take the 2 folders out of each compressed folder and put them out in the driver folder. I then go to device manager like you said, display adapter then to s3 graphics prosavage. I went into the properties and under general at device status it says:

This device is either not present, not working properly, or does not have all the drivers installed (code 24). Try updrageing the drivers for the device.

So I click update and do specifcation for the driver, select select a driver better then you have and check specify location and select mydocuments/drivers/S3noutil (Not sure if it was NoUtil or Util) and it says it has found the updated driver so I check to install the updated driver and click next. But then it pops up a window that says "The file 'dvideo.dll' was not found. Windws needs the disk labeled 'Windows 95/98 S3 Driver Disk' to continue. But I never received a disk when I bought this comp and last time I updated the drivers it just went right away and updated and never asked for one.

Then it goes on asking for 6-7 other files the same way and then says "Windows has finished installing a updated driver for your hardware device". It prompts me to reinstall so I do, but when it reboots I have still 16 bit color and no other option, and still 640x480 that has no other option. The whole look of it looks like the comp is in safe mode but isnt. I dont think I unistalled it or anything...

Oh and it opens up the hardware installation wizard when it restarts but just cancels in the end.
