For an LCD under $300, you'll have to go with a 15". I recommend the KDS Radius RAD-5 15" LCD. You can find it for $249 in swimfrees link.

Video card wise I agree with the Radeon 9200. Go with the Sapphire card here http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproduc...phire+9200+128 for only $74. Its a very nice card.

What kind of memory do you need? What motherboard? Crucial, Corsair, Kingston and good brands.

for ram go Corsair value select, very reliable, if you get it at spartantech.com.
If anything goes wrong theyll replace it for free, i got mine at newegg though, before i found out about spartan tech

would 2 sticks of 256 MB each be better or one 512 corsair XMS be best for my setup?

if you're looking to add more ram later on, go one 512 stick, if this is about it, or if your mobo has a lot of space for memory, go for 2 256 mb, ultimately go for whatever is cheaper if price matters

If you are not gaming, stick with ATI, their display is nicer than Nvidia.

KDS RAD-5BLK, $259 at Newegg, free shipping.

The Radeon 9200 cards are the best under $100 for your proposed use.

I have never had problems with Crucial or Kingston memory.
