Broken Video Card? NO!
I have been trying to resolve the issue I have with Rise of Nations dissapearing when I'm playing. I got the following reply from Microsoft:
"this issue is occurring due to some hardware failing since Rise of Nations is a very hardware intensive game as compared to Flight Simulator 2000 or Age of Empires for instance. We have the game installed on a Radeon 7000 system and it works without any such issue and the video card you have installed on the system is of a higher end but it could be damaged or not installed properly leading to this issue. Previously, we had even heard the system beeping so this is related to some hardware not installed successfully and causing the system to hang. It could most probably be related to the video card installation since it was replaced previously. If we are unable to resolve the issue by following the steps listed in this mail we would need to contact the system manufacturer and confirm that all the hardware are installed as well as functioning properly. I would need to confirm if you have updated the VIA chipset drivers as well as selected C-Media sound card as the default sound device. It is observed from the report that there are two entries for the video card. I was curious to know if you have two display cards installed on your system. If yes, then we would need to physically remove the other one by contacting the system manufacturer. After that we would need to confirm that o nly one entry is present under Device Manager for the video card by following the steps listed below -" I have already replaced my video card. The first card I ordered from Newegg did not display graphics correctly. This one does. I play more hardware intensive games such as Medal of Honor Allied Assault Spearhead with no problem. The C-Media sound is the default and there is only one entry for the video card in the device manager. They also gave me steps to install the correct monitor driver. I didn't know there was such a thing. When I click monitors in the device manager there are four identical entries. Where did they come from? Should I delete the extras? |

Delete all 4 monitors and reboot.
Edit: I just read your other thread which identified your video card - Nope, thats normal for some Nvidia cards. A system I just built with a dual DVI MX440 did this. Keeping your issues in one thread will make it easier to see what's going on - or at least provide details in each thread. Last edited by glc; 07-25-2003 at 12:18 PM. |
