dv editing graphics card
Hey all -
I want to get a decent graphics card that will be able to support dual monitors (eventually I'll get another monitor) and a TV-out, because I use my computer mainly for digital video editing. I don't really do much gaming, if any, so the card doesn't need to be amazing for the latest games. I'd also like it to be relatively inexpensive since I just recently built my computer and am low on funds. Any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks all |

I'd go with the Aiw 9700 or 9800...which is what i'm going to use. A lot of my friends who edit have it too. The words don't really distort nor does the picture.

The ATi 9000 AIW should be alright for your needs.

I recently built a computer for a person to do that very thing, and all I used was an AIW Radeon 7500 64MB DDR and it is working perfect for editing video. So $123 is about minimum for that model.

The AIW will be a waste of money. It is a Radeon with a TV-tuner on it. But for DV capturing you need firewire. Your mainboard (DX = Deluxe version, right ?) has firewire onboard, so all you need is a plain Radeon with 2 monitor outputs and a TV-out, and not the AIW.

If you don't do gaming and the like, then also check into Matrox cards, as video editing is pretty much their main thing

It really doesn't matter cos with DV you don't get full quality on the PC monitor anyway, It's a lower quality to save system resources. At least thats how Premier and FCP work. You'll be better served with a studio monitor to view your output.

Only problem with Matrox is the G550 doesn't have a TV-out and the Parhelia is *expensive*.
I'd probably go with just about any regular Radeon that has the ports and features you need that's within your budget. You could get something very serviceable for around $50 - and if you can get closer to $100 you can do even better. |
