Angry Dark LCD Screen

Hi Guys,
Got a problem! Got a HP Pavilion Z1000 laptop and the display screen is impossible to view. I can barely make anything out on the screen. Tried to change the brightness but nothing seems to change, does not get darker or lighter. Removed and re-installed the video driver, no luck. Plugged a crt monitor onto the back video port and can view that fine. I am running windows XP. Any suggestions? This dang thing just passed its warranty period! Don't want to hear that the LCD screen is shot,. not after a little over a year!
Help!
Thanks,
cpubrain

Sounds like it is shot. Might wanna have it checked out somewhere. A lot of places will look at it for no charge. Just gotta look around and see.
