Radeon 345 IGP
Hey all,
I recently bought a Sony Vaio Laptop 2.66 ghz P4, 512 MB RAM, with a Radeon 345 IGP. I know this is a decent video card (not the top of the line, but decent) however I noticed a strange phenomenon whilst using the card in some 3D applications/games. In Maya 4.5, the card handled 3D rendering of the models I was working on quite well.. however.. the 2D drawing capability of the card seems significantly less apt. The computer slowed down significantly when I was painting file textures using the Maya Paint Effects tool. Also, in the Half-Life mods I play (DOD, Specialists, etc), the card runs the game at around 70 fps constant at 1024 x 768 resolution. But, the fps drops 15-20 fps per sprite effect generated on the screen (most notably a muzzle flash). I've tried the card with the OEM drivers, the newest Omega drivers, as well as the new ATI Catlyst drivers (using the mobility modder). The card is performing the best with the Catlyst drivers.. however.. the 2D problem is still present. Is there any solution to this problem? Thanks in Advance, Bobby |

I know the message I'm replying to is over 2 years old, but it was the first to come up on google.
This may help a little... On my computer with a Radeon 345 IGP, I have a lot of trouble with standard 2d video using windows media player or other video programs. With some videos, I was getting about a rocking 1 frame per second. I racked my brains trying to figure out the problem. Here was my solution, and I have no idea why it works. Solution: Unplug the laptop so that it runs on battery, then plug it back in. (I've always done this while the media player was loaded, I don't know if it will work other times.) Seems weird, but it works for me. Every time! The performance still isn't great. High intensity games will still stink, but at least I can view video files. I'm still working with support on resolving this issue better, but I'm stuck with level 1 support for the time being. *sigh* |
