Low light digital camera
My dad is looking for a camera to use to take pictures casually and in his night club. He needs a good quality camera that will work well in low light situations, without flash. He also wants flash and rechargeable batteries. Any suggestions?

My Panasonic Lumix takes excellent low light pictures, has rechargable batteries, and uses SD memory. I got mine on sale at Wal-Mart for $120. It was originaly $350. I'm not saying that it does maricles. As with any camera it needs enough light to register but I fix my photos up with Picture It Digital Image Pro 7.0 and it works great.

Look for a camera with full manual capability if you want to take photos in low light (without flash).
Here are two lower priced cameras with full manual operation and take very good photos.. Toshiba PDR-3300 (3 megapixel) and the Toshiba PDR-4300 (4 megapixel). If money is not a concern, then take a look at the Canon G5 |

For low light shots, I don't see any better solution than a Sony F717 or a Sony F707, or a Sony DSC-V1. Sony is the only company that makes their cameras with night shot mode for low light shots.

The only problem with "night shot" is that it is an infra red shot, not a normal color shot. Speaking in general, a "fast" lens is needed, but due to the low light levels in night clubs (I've shot in night clubs), you still have to be very steady and the subject can't be moving too fast or the shot will be blurry.
The Sony is an excellent choice. I've shot parties with my F707 without a flash and have been very pleased with the results, but I've not been around the night club scene for a while and therefore haven't used it in that setting. HTH TwoRails PS: The choice in editing software can greatly enhance the final product. PSP 8 does an excellent job of touching up shots taken in low light. |
