Fan on TI4200 runs @ full speed.....

I have a ASUS V8420 Geforce4 Ti4200 128MB 128 bit AGP 4X - 128MB DDR 550MHz 3.3 ns DDR BGA memory
8-Layer PCB.

The card is about 6 weeks old and when I turn my puter on the fan screams, it's turning as fast as it can. The only way I can slow it down is wait until Windows loads and to touch it with my finger. If I try and slow it down before Windows loads it just goes right back to the same fast speed.

I tried hooking the fan up to a fan speed controller - Vantec NXP-205-BK (BLACK) Nexus Fan Controller Panel - and it will not work hooked up through the fan controller.

Is there a sensor on the card that controls the speed of the fan? Is it bad? Also why wouldn't the fan would through the fan controller? They're both 12 volts. The fan controller works because I had my case fans running through it. Any ideas?

Far as I know all gf4ti cards have single speed fans, they all run full speed all the time.
If it makes a screaming noise that can be quieted by touching the fan, it may be bad, can you rma the board? If not, there are many replacement fans and heatsinks for gf4tis and the like.

Asus cards have a software controlled fan with its own temperature sensor. Last one I installed I had to lock the fan speed to Medium in the software because I kept getting warning popups when I set it to automatic (default).
