Pissed Sound card cannot be detected

Hey guys,

The other day something happened and my sound card just quit working..

I have an SoundBlasterAudigy Platinum2 running in WINXP Sp1a Pro...

The sound card just quit working..so i tried re-installing the software and drivers..but I kept getting an error saying that the software cannot detect a Creative SoundBlaster sound card

O_O i havent touched in the inside of the pc recently..so i tried going to Hardware manager.. it says

" Multimedia Audio Controller" and is marked by a yellow exclamation and question mark..

I tried disabling and then abling it..tried re-installing drivers by right clicking then properties.. nothing works !

I even physically took out the card..started up the pc..shut down the pc..put the card back in..started it up...it says Audo card detected..game port detected..then asks me to install drivers for it..so i pop the CD in and let it do an Automatic install..but ends up not finding anything..

I then hesistantly formatted my pc O_O and re-installed XP Pro...opened up Device manager..still the yellow exclamation mark and question mark.. i popped the drivers/software CD in and tried installing again..same thing happens..Sound card Hardware cannot be detected.. I can see the red Optical Out light on..so I know the "Platinum" part aint dead...

Im really suprised... i thought a clean install after a long format would fix everything...

any help would be much much much appreciated...

my mic port wouldn't work and i couldn't figure out why so i tried pulling out the card and puting it into a different pci slot. this fixed the mic problem. it turned out to be an irq conflict after i installed a tv tuner. if you're 100% sure you didn't add any hardware before this problem, and the sound card worked perfectly until now, try changing pci slots if u haven't done so yet. otherwise you should try the card in another pc to see if it actually works. do some troubleshooting to asertain the culprit.

Well here is an update.

I stuck it back into my PC and into a third slot..

Loaded drivers...sound card worked BEAUTIFULLY...
then I got a new problem..

I get the following error when the pc starts up

BCCode : 1a BCP1 : 00041284 BCP2 : C86A7000 BCP3 : FE6AF020

something about dumping into wer3 file into temp folders!
PC keeps randomly restarting..espcially during music or video playing..

I hate problems like that! The only thing I can think of off the top of my head, CorruptedSanitY, is have you gone back into BIOS and make sure things are good in there? I've seen BIOS settings (like turning on onboard sound) mysteriously change themselves.

HTH

This will turn off the reboot on error and it will bluescreen instead.

Copy down the first few lines of the bluescreen, we need to know the stop error code and affected modules to troubleshoot farther.

glc, i turned of paging file..so when i set it to not restart..it says that " if the page file of c:\ has an initial size of 0Mb, then the system may not be able to create a debugging file if a STOP error occurs, continue anyway?"

So what now? turn on pagefile? but how much Mb should i set it to?

Why did you turn off the paging file? That's not a wise idea. Set it to the Windows recommended size. I have 768mb ram, and my pagefile is 1150mb min and max.

try typing this at the command prompt in windows:
chkdsk /f
it may ask you to restart windows to do this disk check.

The second error screen also talks about some software problem. Did the sound drivers have it's own install program or did you have to install the drivers manually by going into device manger? Were the drivers digitally signed?

I see the errors pointing to the drivers win32k.sys and ntfs.sys, none of which look like sound driver files. This tells me that your sound drivers do not appear to be at fault, but some important system files may be.

From this point on I can't say anything helpful. I poured out my brain on this topic. Does any one else have any ideas?
I can only think of something having gone wrong with your mainboard pci slots (as your sound card does not appear to be defective).

You got bad ram, or you are overclocked and are pushing your timings too far.
