Laggy Games

My new game (Unreal II) is so laggy when it first starts but it smooths out after a while like when it first loads, the first minute, the frame jumps around at around 3 or 4 fps then after a while it becomes around 30fps.

Is this because of my slow 1.4GHz Pentium 4 processor or because of my small PC800 256MB Ram?

I think both. My bro played Unreal 2 in the old dell ME (P4 1.5Ghz, 256mb RAM). The frame skips sometimes. It helped when he closed all the programs running even the ones in the background.

It can also be the vid card. What kind do you have anyway?

Sometimes it's just the swap file and memory clearing itself out and loading in the game...

I have a Radeon 9000 125MB 4x AGP right now but I'm thinking about getting a different vid card.

Also, I don't think its just the files getting cleared because it really bad lagging and for a while too. Also it takes about 3mins to load the game every time I die.

I'd say it's all three the vid, cpu and ram. Unreal II is a hog on a system.

If I remember correctly the ATI 8500 or better was a requirement and the ATI 9000 didn't perform as well as the 8500 and so ATI renamed the 8500 to 9100
