Watching TV

Does anyone know of a program that would allow me to watch TV through my computer using my VCR as a tuner? I do not have a TV tuner card but I have a GeForce 4ti 4800 with VIVO.

Both my GF 1 and GF 3 came with the software to do that. I would imagine it is proprietary to indivdual cards... Did you install all the software that came with the card? If it's an Asus vid card, they have theirs online for download.

I have an OEM Gainward card. The only software that came with it was Expert Tool.

I'm not familiar with Gainward's stuff... Have you checked out their site to see if they have it for download like Asus?

There is no such software on the Gainward site.

You might have to contact them for software. Someone else correct me if I'm wrong but the only free video capture software I'm aware of is for the basic Connexant/Brooktree based capture cards, the VIVO cards from ATI and nVidia will require software from the manufacturer to be able to read the card's input.

I already have video capture software. I wan't a program that will just let me watch what is going into the input like a TV hooked up to a VCR. My video capture software does that but there is only one screen size and I cannot set it to be "always on top".

From my small experiences, that is still a part of (or not) the cards proprietary software. Chances are you may be SOL...

The card uses Nvidia WDM drivers. They are generic drivers just like graphics drivers. Many programs are compatable with them.

Give this a try...

http://virtualvcr.sourceforge.net/

Says it works with any WDM driver'd card.

I have that program but it doesn't let me keep it on top. It's hard to do other things while watching TV if the window keeps going behind things.

If you can't keep the program on top, maybe you should try and keep other programs from comming up.

Let's say I'm using word. If I have the Virtual VCR window on top and I click somewhere in Word the V-VCR window goes away. That's my problem.
