music stops playing in Media player
I just finished replacing some parts on an old computer that wasn't working and all went well, replaced the graphic card, sound card, floppy drive and hard drive, mouse and keyboard. All the parts used were second hand. Its a 466 Celeron pcu and a PCChips XT mobo. I just want it for the kids to use.
All went well except for one thing, when I play a CD in the CD player it starts up okay and starts to play the music but after a while it stops playing. Usually stops at the end of one piece of music and wont automatically go to the next music on the CD. It doesn't always happen at the end of a song or piece of music, sometimes it stops playing in the middle of the piece. At this point the player seems to freeze up and I cant close the player (windows media player) unless I ctrl+alt+del and have to restart the computer to get the CD player to work again. It works fine when I use it to install a program or application from the D drive (installed Win ME using it) but have this problem when playing a music CD. I have uninstalled Media player and reinstalled it but still no go. Any suggestions on this one guys?

Leave Media Player uninstalled and use the builtin CD Player - see if that makes a difference.
