Dual Monitors

Just curious. I see more mention of this lately and just wonder as to the application of 2 monitors. Are there games that require 2 like for 2 people playing? Are there specific times when having two would be advantageous? I'm going to be buying a new vid card soon and just wonder why I might want to run two monitors.

Just if you need a lot of room for some applications.

Some users that do CAD or Photoshop work and the like will perfer dual monitors for me it's nice to watch a DVD and browse the web at the same time, although right now I don't have a dual monitor setup going but I can switch my A/V box and have my TV screen show my desktop or a movie.

So one of your "monitors" is your tv, Jimmie? That's kinda cool. Can you set it up to switch between the computer and say your regular cable tv? If I get a Radeon 9600 Pro, can I do the same thing?

You can if you go with an AIW you can watch TV on your PC monitor, with my card I can only veiw s-video out to my TV and my PC is my DVD player which is cool having the movie shown on 2 screens at one time.

Generally, 2 monitors are used to extend your desktop, you can move windows back and forth from one to the other so you can multitask easier.

Another great use for them is if you are doing proofreading or web page development. If you are proofing you can have the original open on one monitor and an email or text program open on the other. This makes it so you don't have to minimize, look, maximize (Damn, forgot what I wanted to say . . . . .). And for web page develpoment its great because you can have your code open on one monitor and your browser showing you exactly what the code is telling it to display. It really is handy.
If you are using apps that have lots of toolbars (I use Coreldraw) you can scoot the toolbars off to your second monitor so you can see more of your work.
No games that I know of yet support it, but the new Matrox card should change that. Matrox is pushing the software companies to support it. I can't wait for that!
