So I got me Logitech Z-680 5.1 speaker system and its F*$#in' great! But now I have a problem, my neighbors down stairs complain about the noise. What they hear is woofer only. The woofer is on the floor, so I put carpet under it but they still can hear it. Elevating the woofer might help but I don't think it will solve the problem completely.
If you have any ideas on how to make me and my neighbors happy please post your ideas. Thanks in advance, PS turning music down is not acceptable solution

don't know about your system but mine allows me to just turn down the woofer without turning down volume. granted, you will have less of a bass line, but it will still sound good, and the neighbors won't be as mad. just a thought.

Well I can turn the woofer off but then I miss out on good sound and then I might as well just return the speakers. Turning it on low doesnt solve anything they still have bass in there apt. The floor is very thin I guess.
Thanks for the input though. Any one else? |

as you said try elevating the woofer or placing sound absorbing materials between it and the floor. I saw this special plywood that has recyclyed paper inside. It's a great sound barrier. Or you can get wireless headphones...

Isolating the woofer from the floor might help. Radical idea, suspend the woofer from the ceiling by bungee cords.

To adjust the bass and treble level
On the Options menu, click Advanced Controls. Under Volume Control, click Advanced. Drag the Bass slider toward Low or High to decrease or increase the amount of bass. Drag the Treble slider toward Low or High to decrease or increase the amount of treble. i hope that help....but if u have a 5.1 sound card sumthing liek that then u can go in those controls and change the bass on that... |

You really have two choices, turn down the music or do not live in an 'apart'ment.
In the same manner that you can hear a thumping car with it's windows up blocks away, you really can not do too much to iisolate the load music. Your best option is the suspension idea or placing it on a really think (12 inches) peice of medium density foam. If it is too hard it will just transmit the sound anyway.

you could go extreme! Buy a bunch of dynamat, which = Lots of $$$ , pull your carpet up a bit and put the dynamat under the carpet where your computer and sub sit, or you can just lay it ontop of the carpet. Or you can use a combination of dynamat and the other materials that was already mentioned.

You're problem is that bass signals are very omnidirectional. Placing the sub on the floor allows the floor to become a transducer - it will radiate your bass signal. Of course, that's the whole point of a subwoofer.
A few simple things you can do is move the sub away from any corners and any side walls. But beyond placement, there is no simple or cheap way to elimiate bass for others and keep it for you. Products like basstraps and acoustic matting (like dynamat) will not eliminate the floor from becoming a transducer. You're only choice then is to suspend your subwoofer, but as I said, a subwoofer is intended to be on the floor so the floor will radiate your bass signal. So you've got a two-edged sword to deal with. Good luck. Dave.

Mine sounds excellent. I adjust base and treble in WMP. I just like messing with settings.
