How good are the Nvidia FX cards. The 5200 is cheap so it must be replacing the 440MX for their low end card. How about the 5600?How does it compare with the Radeon 9600 Pro?I know they support dx9.I have a Leadtek Ti 4200.Would the 5600 be better or worse? How about a link to a good review of them?thanks

The 9600pro is better then the 5600ultra. When the 5700ultra it will challenge the 9600pro

Watch the language Compman, its a family forum.
Fastfly, the Ti4200 is definetly better then the 5600. Check out some reviews. http://www.monkeyreview.com/reviews/...num=265&page=2 http://www.cybercpu.net/review/msifx5600/page5.asp The 5600 Ultra gets closer, but falls behind still. http://www.vr-zone.com/reviews/NVIDIA/FX5600U/page5.htm http://www.overclockercafe.com/Revie...Ultra/pg_4.htm Aside from the Direct X 8.1 limitation on the Geforce 4, the Ti4200 is the superior card to the two. Adding the 9600 Pro into the equation, shows the 9600Pro as the superior card. If you are choosing from the 3 of them, go with ATI. It has DirectX 9 and its faster.

I'd keep that 4200.
As for the new 5700 as compared to the 9600XT read this review from DriverHeaven :http://www.driverheaven.net/reviews/5700/index.htm |

Thanks for those links. But the Ti-4200 really bombs when AA is added. How does the 5600 get affected?

The 5600 Ultra isnt too good. The 5700 Ultra does compete with the 9600 XT. Look at pricing and performance because some cards are a huge rip off like the 5900 Ultra, which is rules at dx 8.1 games and lower but has crappy dx 9.0 support.

The 5600 isn't very good and the new iteration, the FX 5700 is now out.
That one holds it's own against ATI cards until AA is enabled, after that it's all ATI. This hasn't been NVidia's year. |

Pam I dont know where these links are...Pretty Sure I found them on this forum. But ATi had Nvidia until AA was enabled. Then when AA and AF was enabled they =ed out. Ill search and try to find the links.
I thought it was very weird myself. Although the big thing still is Direct x capability. |

i believe the low end of FX series were introduced to support direct x9, which the Ti series couldnt do.

The thing is - the DX9 support in the FX series is awful. They didn't do that right. Keep the 4200 till you can't stand it any more then see what the situation is. The 4200 was and still is an excellent card.

Test of the current newer and faster 5700 up against the 9600XT : http://www.driverheaven.net/reviews/5700/index7.htm You seem to have gottern yourself reversed. If you'll hang on a minute I'll also post the chart from THG. This is the the same game tested at THG : http://www.driverheaven.net/reviews/5700/index7.htm You'll note that FX 5600 comes in dead last and the 5700, while better is no improvement. The game is TRAOD so it's DX9. THG by the way concedes the AA crown to ATI and you might want to read the whole thing. The driver optimization charge was made by NVidia and Hanners at rage3d checked it out. It's beginning to look bogus. Last edited by pam123; 10-25-2003 at 09:55 PM. |

Thanks Fastfly, now I understand what you meant and, yes, it is odd.
Also DriverHeaven directly contradicts it in it's conclusion - my bad posted wrong link in my first reply and I will correct it -. One of them is wrong. edit : http://www.driverheaven.net/reviews/5700/index11.htm http://www6.tomshardware.com/graphic...8-nv36-31.html Last edited by pam123; 10-26-2003 at 10:46 AM. |
