hi all
well i am pretty new at fixing computers (just a newlly found hobby)and again i seek the sage advice of the experts here on the forum i was given a packard bell pc , about 4-5 yrs old wth win98 on it .........with a matching packard bell monitor to go with it it seems it was working until it was taken into a fixit shop , but now is not the problem is when hooked up to the original P.B. monitor the screen is very dark and hard to read.. but when hooked up to another monitor it works just fine ..correct brightness is okay when the monitor is hooked up to another pc that also works fine ... when i look under device manager i see it has a Rage 3D IIC AGP for a display adapter ... my question is this .. is a display adapter hardware, software or both??? and when i tried to change this under device manager to a standard windows display adapter it would not work it just came back up with the Rage 3D it seems that this Rage 3D is not configued correctly or something i do not see any extra cards plugged in on the mobo anywhere so i believe everything is onboard.. which has me confused because i am new at this and do not quite understand how it all works yet i see update for the drivers but they all seem to be for Windows NT not win98 well, what`s next folks ???? like Dumbo said ....I`m all ears!!!!! So when the P.B. monitor is connected to another PC it works fine? And when the PC is connected to another monitor it works fine? but just not together? thats odd. Is there a seperate card in the computer that the monitor is being connected to or is the serial port the monitor plugs into connected to the mobo?

ok , some more info
after looking at the mobo , i see that it has a rage chip in the mobo(i am still learning about these things ) Am i to assume that it was installed when the pc was taken in to be fixed ? i do not know if it was original equipment so i do not know how to change it and it is not needed since it works on another monitor also i forgot to tell you that the screen size is smaller also i will include a screen shot in my next post also the monitor was made in 1995 and i was wondering if the monitor is too old electronically for this video card??? maybe that was the problem all along?? what do you guys think??? No that's what the PC came with, no fix-it shop can just solder a graphics processor onto a motherboard and have it work.
You can't change it either. You can try a PCI video card (make sure to put it in the first slot) and see if it works. |
