DVD to TV out won't play DVD

Hi all,
My RCA carousel DVD player crapped out on me. Instead of buying a new DVD player, I want to use my comp's DVD player for now. I have an ATI AIW Radeon 8500 128MB, with TV out. Now, I can get TV out OK, and can see my desktop, however when i play the DVD, it just shows black on my screen. What gives? Is this some copy protection crap? Thanks for your reply.

Thanks for replying. I'm using the ATI software that came with the card, but Windows Media Player gives the same result, as does the software that comes with the DVD.

Go to control panel / display / settings / advanced / overlay. Click on clone modes, select theater mode.

Also check in the same box the "displays" tab and make sure that the TV output is enabled.

If you don't see these options, install the ATI control panel from your driver CD or the drivers you downloaded to get them.

Xayd, that worked like a charm! Thanks alot! 40 feet of S video cable (comp to TV), and the picture is crisp and clear. Best part, I can use the computer at the same time, and the TV still shows the DVD full screen. Oh, I can also use the Remote Wonder to control the computer from my couch. Sweet deal!

Actually, I'm having this exact same problem, but with a GeforceFX 5600. Anyone know where said controls are for the Nview system? Thanks. Computer configuration below.

BFD Deadeye - can you let me know how you use the comp to play a DVD and still use the comp? This is exactly what I want to do!

Thanks m8.

It's in the Theater setting that Xayd mentioned. And I found out by accident. I had the movie playing full screen, hit escape on the computer and clicked on a website. Went back out to the living room, and the movie was still playing full screen on the TV.

Yeah any video the graphics card will put in an overlay. You can specify through the overlay options in the control panel where you want it to go. It can be either both monitors (assuming you have two monitors), one monitor, one monitor and TV out, or just TV out.

Schrodinger the settings for Nview should be pretty similar, although I've not used an nVidia card in quite some time. Just look for overlay options somewhere.
