laptop display problem

I have an ageing laptop here - P166MMX, 80mb RAM etc.

There seems to be something wrong with the display but I'm having trouble sorting it out.

When it has booted (fresh install of Win98SE), I get small red dots appearing on icons and when I move the mouse pointer over them, some disappear!

I have downloaded all the correct drivers for the laptop from the manufacturers website and still no luck.

I also sometimes get random blue letters during the BIOS screens at start up.

Any help would be appreciated!

TIA

its probably just that the monitor is going bad, you could try going into propeties and go to display or in control panel and put it to 16 bit display if its on 24 bit, that might help

To troubleshoot whether it's an adapter (video chip) or display (screen) problem, hook up an external monitor.
