9600XT or 9700 Pro?
Hi all,
I can get the ATI Radeon 9600XT retail for $189. Yet the I can get an OEM 9700 Pro made by either Sapphire or Powercolor for $199. Which would be better to go with. I know both have DX9 support, but from what I've seen the 9700 pro outperforms the 9600XT by a sizeable margin. Would it be worth considering the 9700 Pro? Are Sapphire and Powercolor good OEM's? Thanks in advance. Edit: Kind of a stupid question but I just wanted to doublecheck: The normal ATI catalyst drivers work fine on the OEM card as well, correct? Thank again. I would go with the 9700 PRO.... I sell mostly Powercolour ATI cards and they have all been working great. I think saying 256MB is more bragging rights now than any real performance gains.

And the normal ATI drivers (not powercolor) work fine on those, right Hal? Thanks again.

Yup... you can get confirmation of that directly from the ATI website too.

Cool, one more question: What's your take on OEM vs. retail? The retail powercolor is $219 as opposed to $199 for an OEM Powercolor (or Sapphire). Am I gonna want the software that comes with the retail card, or is it something you can do without? Thanks again.

With the retail powercolour cards that I get in, the only software we've been getting is the ATI MMC which you can download the updated one anyway. The Retail also comes with the cable to plug into the TV where the OEM has not.
