sound card woes...

SB pci 128.. old pc getting back up and running having problems with sound card. I changed PCI socket with modem, sound card, ethernet card have had problems with all. So far I have gotten drivers reloaded and fixed with modem and ethernet card. I am still having problems with the sound. w98se finds the card and then starts to load drivers then I get the message

"Ensoniq Audio PCI the audio interrupt has been routed icorrectly by the system. sound inactive. Use automatic settings in device manager."

when I go to device mgr. automatic setting are already selected. I have looked and downloaded some drivers (I am out of town and have no software) off the net. then after loading drivers I am prompted to insert w98se disc. ????? whats next? I have no disc with me. Anyway around this?

Thanks for your help. This site has saved me a bundle.

If you have a SB card but the pc finds a Ensoniq, could it be that you have not properly disabled the onboard sound either through the bios or a jumper on the board? Does that board have onboard sound?

no onboard sound here. I have just uninstalled it from my pc and removed the card and put it back, now when I rebooted it doesn't even pick it up as a creative labs card. (it used to) now all I get it multimedia device found (something like that). I got the model # now I am going to see if I can find a set of drivers.

guess not. I meant to only remove the card from the system but It looks like I have removed all the software. Is that why win98se will not pick it up on boot? only as a multimedia device. I have downloaded software from www.driverguide.com and also drivers but for some reason I cannot install them because "the sb pci128 is not found"

Ok, I got my software installed for this sound card from the origional disc, and I am still getting the same message on reboot

"Ensoniq Audio PCI the audio interrupt has been routed icorrectly by the system. sound inactive. Use automatic settings in device manager."

The automatic settings are already selected in the devise manager. Any suggestions??
