Hey,
I found this thread but didn't want to start a new one so... I've been searching around for a nice speaker that fits my budget. I wanted something more than a 2.1 (2+sub) but under 70 dollars. From what I hear, the Logitech z-640 seems to be popular with a 5.1 config. However, I also hear that the z640's base can be overwhelming and unadjustable making the treble unheard of. If I were to get those, I would just have my friend get it from a local Sams Club as I hear they have it for pretty cheap. Can you guys give me a recommendation? If not the Logitech z640, I want to try to get it from Newegg so I can get free or reduced cost shipping. By the way, I'm sorry about asking another question in someone else's thread - I'm relatively new to this forum type setting and thought that it might be better to keep the number of threads to a minimum. Thanks, kram

I love 'em! Even with the onboard sound, watching a DVD or playing music, they deliver great surround sound. And the price is right too.

Would it be thought, though, that the bass is too "overwhelming", though? I heard its kinda hard to tone the bass down and hear the treble.
Thanks, kram |

I have my bass on the floor under the table near my feet. I've turned in down quite a bit because it is a rather strong bass, but I don't believe it "overwhelms" the rest of the system. You can adust the system easy enough through the center speaker controls.

OK, thanks for your advice - I'll go and buy it and see how it works out. I have high hopes for this :-).

I have Z-640's and they are great. The bass is not overwhelming. There is an adjustment on the sub and you can also adjust it with your sound card drivers.

For the price (under $75). This is one of the best sound investments I have made! The bass can be turned down to a reasonable level. Doug
