5.1 speaker surround sound problem

I just bought some 5.1 speakers and a 5.1 sound card but when i plug all three leads in for centre front and back, I only get sound out of the front speakers. When i just plug the lead to the subwoofer in the front or headphone out or whatever in the sound card, i get sound from all the speakers but not proper surround!

Has anyone had the same problem or does anyone know what the problem might be?

I do not think it matters but im using the terratec aureon 5.1 sound card and cyber acoustics 5.1 speakers. Thanks for any input!

it sounds like the sound card might not have been inserted right or its damaged in some way.

what are you playing on it? With a lot of mp3's and such they only play stereo, besides that when you plug it into the headhpone and sub jacks it comes out analog stereo and isn't true surround sound. i have the same problem, only if I play cds and games videos etc, it comes out on all of the speakers

Have you configured the speakers in the "sound and audio devices"? Sounds like you're still set to 2.1. If you are using XP go into the advanced tab and change the speakers to 5.1.
