Very Inexpensive Gamer?

I have a friend who just got an old PII that he wants to upgrade so he can play some games. He doesn't want a super computer. Just a very cheap upgrade. I was thinking a new motherboard, an AMD Duron 1.4, new RAM, and a new video card would work for him but what video card would work to play a game such a Medal of Honor that is very cheap? I used to have a GeForce 2 MX in my PC but it is an Athlon 1800 and much newer technology. What would be best for this?

Durons in the 1 Ghz range are really cheap and reliable, but thier not really great for games. But thier definatly cheap, I got my 1 Ghz Duron bundle 2 years ago for $450. If you can find an original P4 around 1 Ghz that would be perfect.

For video cards, check out some of the low ended Radeons, if you want games like MOH and Return to Castle Wolfenstien a 9000 or even a 7500 will be fine (you can probably get them for $60 these days).

He doesn't want advanced games. The most advanced game he would play would be Call of Duty. If it runs OK it's fine he doesn't care if he has to turn some settings down a bit.

The minimum system requirements for COD are : 700 MHz cpu, 128 mb ram, 32mb video card, DX9.
I'm guessing the card would have to support T&L.
I'm also guessing that, turned down or not, it won't run it to well.
Medal of Honor is about the same but video card needn't be T&L capable and DX8 will do. That should work well because it's not as demanding a game hardwarewise.

Tansform and Lighting.
When these stopped being among the calculations performed by the cpu and became a hardware function of the video card, the geforce 256 was the first, it marked the birth of modern video card.
Essentially transforms are "the basic moving, scaling, or rotating of objects or the camera from your view point. In other words geometry.
Lighting : This uses the actual physics of light to calculate the way it will be used in a scene instead of relying on "light maps".
What this means is a much faster card that produces much better images.
It's also why 3dfx died.
A graphic's company that misses a shift like that is in major trouble. They had other troubles but that was certainly one of the big ones, none of the Vodoo5 cards had T&L.

Ahhh... I remeber my old Monster 3D 4 MB card I had in my old computer. It played all my games. I don't know how. Anyway, I think even the Ti 4200 might be a little expensive. Anyother cheap cards that would work ok?

I would suggest a 64mb card.
It might be worth your while to see if you can't find a 64mb 9500, yes there is such a thing. Or, more accurately, there was.
It wouldn't hurt to check out e-bay.
If you're feeling noble that geforce 2 you're not using should work for him.
