game freezing
Hi, i have a radeon 9600xt which is slightly overclocked to about 525 mhz core and 330 memory, i have the 3.8 drivers and am running my computer on windows 98se. sometimes in games although they run perfectly, they suddenly freeze and i cannot do anything and am forced to reset my computer, does anyone know why this may be.
It may be a common problem but i do not know and i meant to say i am using direct x 9.0b if that matters, thanks very much, tom |

lower the graphics. just cuase its a high end card doesnt mean it can do everything. unless your playing intensive games like halo or bf1942 or stuff like that, then your problem is not the graphics level.

i now clocked it down to normal and the problem persisted so i tried the cpu at normal speed and that made no difference, its doing this on call of duty and the game no stutters REALLY badly! any ideas? i am running 98 could it be that

sorry, another update, the game was very slow and had a lot of lag because it was on optimal system settings for everything! So although that problem is fixed, i still have the problem that the games still freeze, even old simple games that do not require much graphics power. Does anyone have any ideas because i can only play about 2 mins of a game before it freezes!
thanks very much for any input, tom |

You need the latest video driver (4.1 or at least 3.10) Call of Duty did not work with the earlier drivers but ATI fixed this with the 3.10's. Also, freezing isn't always caused by the video card, sometimes it can be the soundcard. I've had games tht froze up and decreasing the hardware accerleration on the soundcard fixed the problem.
