Buy 7.1 Speakers Now?

I was thinking of buying Creative's 7.1 speakers(T7700) for the Audigy 2 ZS Platinum. Should I wait until they release another bunch of 7.1 Speakers? I heard they are a good set of speakers but have distortion at higher volume levels. And 7.1 Speakers must have wires running all over the place.
Would have these speakers make my floor a mess?

Honestly what are you going to do with 8 channel audio, and are you actually going to spend money to get the speakers mounted properly, or get speaker stands in order to get the actual effect?

Plus Creative speakers aren't exactly top notch. I would personally rather have a nice set of 4.1 or 5.1 Logitechs.

Klipsch is also a good brand although they are going to be a bit more expensive.

Finally there is Bose which I personally think is overpriced and would never suggest buying, but some people claim it's the best out there.

Personally if I was going to go all out for a 7.1 system, I would connect the Optical out on the Audigy to a decent receiver that supported 8 channel audio, and then connect Onkyo speakers, but this is a bit off topic.

Invest in Logitech or Klipsch speakers, don't worry about digital output, and don't worry about having more than 5 channels of audio (4.1 is just as good if this is for a Desktop system unless you are going to replace your home theater with it).

Thanks for the suggestion, but purchasing 5.1 speakers is what I'm trying not to do. I want to take advantage of my soundcard. If you don't take advantage of Creative's Audigy 2 without quality speakers, my money went to waste.

I should wait?

How much do you plan on spending on speakers? I have an Audigy 2 ZS with Midiland 5.1 MX-5 speakers and it sounds good to me.

When you bought the card you didn't pay much for hte 7.1 sound capability. You paid for all the other features. There really isn't much of a difference between 7.1 and 5.1. It's just a waste of money and space in my opinion. The sound difference would be minimal.

Not Everyone is rich. The sound quality for the speakers would still be incredible for the price. Should I still wait? Will having 7.1 speakers make mess on my floor?

i have the 2 zs just like you and i wanted to opt out for 7.1 so i bought the creative t7700 inspire 7.1 setup. i dont know what the former member was smoking, but these sound much better than logitech 640 or 620. i got these for 120 bucks at first, but frys had them for 80 bucks--so i price matched it. decent 7.1 for 80 dollars is a smart move.

oh yeah, whatever speaker setup you do use, make sure you dont use creative media source software or any of that b/s. get some different software.

Exactly. It's not a digtal audio standard, and won't be for at least three years when HD-DVD gets going. And then things still may remain at 5.1. So what does the extra speaker give you??? More sound??...no. More power??...no. Better sounding games??...no. It's marketing and that's all.

I'd rather have a really good 5.1 system than a average 7.1 system that can't even do what people think it can do.

Dave.
