is ASUS P4P 800 Deluxe an 8X AGP or what?
Hi. I am building a computer for the first time, and have had to do alot of cramming these last few days to get up to speed on some tech issues. I did alot of research and settled on these components (partial list):
MOBO: ASUS P4P800 Deluxe Processor: Pentium IV 2.8 gHz 800 mHz fsb AGP card: EVGA GEFORCE-FX 5600 ULTRA 8X 128MB Memory: 512MB, 184-pin DIMM Monitor: Viewsonic A90f+ My question is this: Can I plug an 8X card into my AGP port? According to the manual, the box, the web site, and everything else, my AGP supports 8X. However, the manual states that: "This motherboard has an AGP slot that only supports+1.5v AGP cards. When you buy an AGP card, make sure make sure that you ask for one with +1.5V specification. Note the notches on the card golden fingers to ensure that they fit the AGP slot on your motherboard." then, below this there is a warning note which states: "Install only 1.5v AGP cards on this motherboard! 3.3V AGP cards are not supported in this motherboard." I haven't installed my geforce card yet, because it is still in the mail. But I sure don't want to burn up my MOBO. I am new to the AGP scene, but isn't it true that AGP1x and 2x are 3.3V, 4x is 1.5V, and 8X is .8V or .7V? If so, does the above text from the manual just seem to warn against installing the older 3.3V cards, but not necessarily the newer 8X .8V cards? Please help! |

I'm using a Hercules 9800 Pro in a P4P800D, and it's running at 8x.
