Strongest consumer PCI video card made, ridiculous price, you can get a 128mb at Newegg for $69. I don't think an extra 128mb ram is worth $60 on a PCI card.

256megs of video memory is not necessary yet, and once it is necessary, a PCI video card will not be strong enough to power the new games. I would recommend the cheaper version glc mentioned if you're in the market for a PCI video card. There's no reason to pay $130 for that card.

no i dont have one and would just like a new video card without having to rebuild my current or build a new system.
What is the difference between agp and pci. the cards are exactly the same in specifications |

PCI cards run on the PCI bus which is 33 MHz. The AGP bus starts at 66 MHz and goes up from there depending on the "X" rating on the card and slot.

so if a pci and agp card were against eachother, the agp would be twice as fast?

basically yes the AGP is twice as fast as the PCI and then many more times faster depending on 2x, 4x, and 8x being the fastest (which really isnt usuable to full potential yet).

i kinda wish i had better grapics but am not a huge gamer. i play a game once in a while and watch dvds on my pc. what would you recomend.

I still recommend the PCI FX5200 but the 128mb version definatley.

If you want outstanding 2D graphics and DVD decoding, and gaming is not a top priority, look at the Radeon 9200SE PCI cards.

Who cares about how many bits it is? The 9200se is the top ATI PCI card and is the alternative to the Nvidia, and is a far better 2D card.

Oh I forgot he meant a PCI card. Forget what I said above and go with glc's card because its 2d quality is much much better than the 5200's. If you care more for games then get the 9200.

In a PCI card, I don't see where bits will make any difference. The 5200 will run 3D games a bit better than the 9200se but the 9200se will blow that 5200 away in DVD decoding and overall display quality.

lemme get this straight, between the two the 5200 is slighter better at gaming but the 9200SE blows the 5200 away at 2D and DVDs.
If you're not a big gamer will you be able to notice a significant difference between the two gaming wise? the reason i ask is i am also gonna buy a pci card and had my mind set on a 5200 but did not know about ATI's DVD capabilities, so now i am reconsidering. I am a light gamer, but am pretty into DVD stuff. |

If you are a light gamer, I think the 9200se will serve you well enough. The Nvidia cards have always been heavily biased toward gaming but ATI has always gone for overall balance.

I thought ATI's top was 9100 for PCI and nvidia had a 5600FX for PCI??

All I know is I searched Newegg for PCI video cards - and the only ones stronger than those are professional workstation cards, not gamers or dvd players.

did you know that ati developed nintendo gamecube? the reason i said this is all the game systems go by bit graphics. Playstation 1 and n64 had 64 bit video cards and the new game systems have 128 bit cards. The playstation 3 is supposed to have 256 bit cards.

pretty good i heard but nintendo is teaming up with ati and i have a feeling that ati is gona put an unbelievable graphics card with it just so they can top the ps3

I have a Gforce and its very good. The fan makes a lot of noise on startup -- they have kits you can purchase to quiet it down. Otherwise, its good for gamming, video capture, etc
