What is a VGA adapter?

Hey gang,

I know what a vga adapter does. But how does it work? I just bought a vga adapter for my Playstation 2 and it claims to be a HIGH-RES vga adapter, which converts the picture to higher display dimensions. How does this work?

If anyone could give a link or explanation to the workings of a vga adapter I would be truly thankful!

TIA

Sounds like you should be able to hook a pc monitor with it.
