PCI or AGP?

does anyone know what kind of slot is on my HP pavillion a340n? Is there anyway to check? Also my friend wants to sell me his ATi Radeon 9000 AGP for $40, is that a good deal?

Open it up and look. Thats a really weak card for gaming. If you are just DVD watching and doing basic tasks its great.

According to HP's website, your machine DOES have an AGP slot.

If you are gaming on a budget I would recommend the Radeon 9600 Pro. It is an excellent card. What are your system specs?

The only reason to put an AGP card in would be to game - the Intel Extreme Graphics can do everything else just fine. The Radeon 9000 is an improvement over that for gaming, but still not that great.

If your not going to do much gaming that that cared will do you fine for $40. No need to spend money on something you will not use to it full potential.

Do you play games? If you do, go with the 9600 Pro or XT. If you don't and just want to use dual monitors make sure that 9000 has dual monitor support and use that.

If you want dual monitor support - there's 2 ways to do it. One way is a dual head AGP card, the other way is a PCI video card working in tandem with the onboard video. The AGP solution is preferable. You cannot use dual monitors with the onboard plus a single head AGP card, when you insert an AGP card, it automatically disables the onboard video.
