Mic Problems on Video Game

Hope you guys can help.

I play Activision's "Day of Defeat", an online multiplayer first-person shooter. My mic wont work in-game to talk to other players, but it works fine with other programs on my PC.

Activision told me to change my display parameters. I did. It didn't help.

They told my to update all my drivers. I did. It didn't help.

They told me to close all apps in the background. I did. It didn't help.

I even uninstalled and reinstalled the game...twice...it didn't help.

I'm running Win98, Pentium III 733Mhz with a Raedon 7500 card. I just don't understand why the mic would work with every other app and not this one.
