PC Jukebox
I am toying with the idea of putting together a PC specifically to hold and play my cd & mp3 collection. Any tips on optimising the components for this task would be greatly appreciated

You don't really need a whole lot. It's not really resourse intensive.
The two main things would be a good sound card and adequate HDD space.

I have been thinking of doing the same. If I do it I will probably use an Athlon 1800, 256mb of RAM, 80GB HDD, Audigy 2 ZS, and a good Asus mother board with onboard video. I will probably use XP or 2000 because they are much more stable than 98. I don't want my music stopping becasuse some program performed an illegal operation.

Yeah, here are the some of the things you migth want in a jukebox pc: Large HDD, Creative SB Audigy Platinum, Good MOBO, good decent RAM, and a good set of speakers (look at Creative, Harman Kardon, Logitech, or Klipsch).
