nVidia 56.72 Drivers

I'm totally baffled about this little problem.

I recently upgraded my graphics card from a GeForce FX5200 to a FX5950 ultra.

When I boot into WinXP using the latest nVidia divers 56.72 my monitor goes into stand by mode, everything else still runs, but obviously I cant see a thing. The only way I can resolve this is by booting into safe mode uninstalling the drivers, then rebooting and let Windows automatically install 52.16 drivers.

Is there some problem with the latest nVidia drivers or is it something more...sinister?

Mobo is a MSI K7NS Delta, which is nForce2 based, and the monitor is a Mitsubishi DiamondPro 930SB if that helps.

I don't know if there is a problem with the latest drivers, but if the 52.16's work, there's no reason to upgrade. Latest is not always best, and there can even be issues with things you have that others don't.

I've had the same problem with my GF2 for 2 years now. The highest version I can get to run is 21.83. A couple of years ago I updated to that version. Now, I follow the instructions to the letter...disable AV, uninstall old drivers, but when I install the new ones (last one I tried was the 56.64) it starts up, but the monitor then goes to power save mode. As you say, I can hear everything else running. My only option is to restart and revert back to the 21.83's.

I can't tell by the description of your monitor, but by chance is it a digital LCD? That is what mine is. On my other computer with basically the same equipment, the update works with a CRT. I think there is some sort of problem with the drivers where they update and think a CRT is attached and send the signal via that method (analog) rather than through the digital port on the card. The problem is with the digital only LCD, I can't get to the control panel after the install to tell it to use the digital outlet. I decided it wasn't worth it as the features on the new drivers won't do anything for an old GF2 anyway. I posted this and glc convinced me to quit worrying about it as the system works fine with the older driver. Sometimes I get caught up in the "have to update to the newest driver" syndrome.
