Good Recording Software.

I was looking for recording software for my pc. I have a Soundblaster x-gamer that had a recorder and player that I used to use to record from old tapes, 8 tracks, records and off of my satellite radio. Now that I upgraded to Win XP the recorder that came in the x-gamer software doesn't work. I even down loaded the one on Creatives site but it wouldn't install without the old recorder, and XP won't allow the old recorder to install.
So now I'm looking for a new one, it can be free or something cheap (around $30). I just like to convert old vinyl, tapes and such to mp3 for cutting grass, biking etc.

May even be interested in a new sound card if there is better out there for around $50. (don't have a lot to sink into the comp right now - wedding is a few months away)

Audacity will owrk great for what you want to do. And the SB-gamer is a good card - better that 98% of those on the market.

I was doing alot of tape to HD transfer and used Goldwave.
Not sure if its still free. Great features.

Goldwave has never been freeware. It's more of a honor system shareware. They don't restrict your use, but ask if you're going to continue to use it to pay for it.
