It has to be true because I just recently got a 9800 Pro

Apparently it a pre-order only at this point...

The official release date of that chip is May 5th I believe. .. anyway it's during the first week of May.

I too think it's a pre-order.

Dont bother getting this card, wait for the XT version which will have 4 more pixel pipelines & beat the hell out of the geforce 6800.. thats what im waiting for. Oh.. and btw, the XT will be AGP 8x so no problems.. the only difference with the X880 is that it will use PCI-Express... hardly desireable at the moment and i doubt youll see much performance increase.. stick to ur same mb and get the XT800

Nvidia better be ready to have their sox rocked once again
This card should play like gold on any Doom 3 engine.. or even better if the case arises.

is the nvdia 6800 out on the market for people to buy yet?

and by "ofiicial release date," do you mean people can buy it that date, or it's just introduced?

Manufcaturers like to announce their product far in advance of their actual release. By "official release date", wait about two weeks and then search in places like Newegg.

It should be faster, releasing a card late, extending the date 2 weeks does not make sense if its not faster. But I want to upgrade. I cannot afford to hold back using this gf2ti any longer.

Well, there may be a possiblity to enable the extra pipelines since their just hidden in the card.. though you might get errors.

Though i'd wait in your case, 4 pixel pipelines extra may not sound like much but it should in theory make quite a big difference in performance of how games run, besides.. you would only be waiting something like an extra 3-4 weeks if i remember correctly.

If you are using a GF2Ti now, just get a 9800 Pro, it will serve you very well for a long time and is going to cost you half what a X800 is going to cost you and you can have one *now*.

im with glc, wait till the X800 comes out, then theres a price drop and you should be able to get the 9800pro for around 150-175 USD

Also, I'm starting to wonder - how real can graphics get? Are the extra four rendering pipelines going to make the biggest of difference, or would the Radeon 9800 Pro's excellent performance do for now? I think that the Radeon 9800 Pro is good - maybe after price drops, you might consider it even more .

I wonder how good graphics will get myself in the future, look how far we came in a short time.. Spectrum in the 80's and now full 3d. I guess in our time we will see graphics as good or even better as some of pixar's animated films such as toy story or nemo even and i think it'll surpass that eventually, but once it gets to look like the real world how can it get any better?.

anyway back on topic.. the extra 4 pipelines will make alot of difference in performance and even more so when changing to higher resolution, for an example look at radeon 9600 non pro & radeon 9600 pro benchmarks.. non pro has 4 pipelines while pro has 8.. i think thats correct anyway.

yes i think so, in the benchmarks ive seen the frame rate goes above 60 in alot of resolutions.. so if we take this into thought, imagine what the x800 xt will be like.

Apparantly the X800 is not far behind the Geforce 6800 in 3dmark 2003 benchmarks, so i'd like to see what happens when they release the x800 XT, and both of the cards will get better as drivers are released according to sources.. we can only wait now.
