ATI announces Radeon 9550 VPU

Hey folks,

Just recently, it seems that ATI launched a new VPU: The ATI Radeon 9550. Memory clock speed is 400 Mhz, while its Core Clock speed is relatively low, at 250 Mhz. In that sense, it is comprable to the Radeon 9600 SE - at its price, it'll probably give more than the Radoen 9600 SE. Both of them are DX9 support, and both of them have four pixel pipelines. The Radeon 9550 is a 128-bit card, while the 9600SE was a 64-bit card. Seems that it could probably give more performance, eh?

The Radeon 9550 has nothing to do with the Radeon 9500 and the Radeon 9500 Pro (too bad they discontinued such a good VPU) - it is based soley on the 9600 series.

The point I made this thread is a purely informative purpose: to try to steer those who were about to purchase the Radeon 9600 SE, and try to have them consider the Radeon 9550. ZipZoomFly has the Sapphire Radeon 9550 128 for 76.50 USD - within a few USD of the 9600 SE.

Now, am I behind on this, or did I inform you all? Certainly, I hope that latter!

Hope that helps,
kram

It's actually been out for three weeks - just wanted to let those who wanted a low 100USD and under VPU about it . After all, you only have so many opportunities to buy a GPU.
