IE ERROR. Please Help!
After surfing the web the on some questionable websites I started recieve an error when trying to open internet explorer. I run IE 6, run on cable modem, and run Windows 98SE. I have run Reg Seeker by Hover and cleaned out my temp internet files, but that has not corrected the problem. When I try to open IE it donesn't even open the page is just gives me the following error and only lets me hit "OK". Everything else works fine, i.e. Outlook, Soulseek (which runs from internet). The following is the error:
EXPLORER caused an invalid page fault in module ATLID32.DLL at 0167:01e544a0. Registers: EAX=01e54456 CS=0167 EIP=01e544a0 EFLGS=00010202 EBX=00000000 SS=016f ESP=01a4af9c EBP=1a45b1a8 ECX=006d0061 DS=016f ESI=00452464 FS=3497 EDX=0043003c ES=016f EDI=08000000 GS=0000 Bytes at CS:EIP: 89 4c 11 fc eb 03 8b 4d f8 8b 75 f0 03 d1 8d 4e Stack dump: 1a40c687 00453af0 00000000 00000000 00000000 10000000 01a4afec 00000000 00452464 00000000 1a40a86a 00000000 00452464 00452474 1a40a82d 0044feb8 Then is tells me to reboot to fix the problem. Any suggestions to help solve this problems would be greatly appreciated. Regards, Funkjet29 |

See if IE will open using the "Windows Update" shortcut on the Start Menu. If so, the problem is most likely spyware.
If you haven't already, download, install, immediately update and then run Spybot and/or Ad-Aware. Read the help files to familiarize yourself with how they work. I recommend you use them both since each tends to find things the other misses. Let them clean up any spyware found. |

Eagle,
I was able to run a windows update from the IE cd. Once I got Explorer back, I immediately downloaded Spybot and ran it. Everything looks Thanks for the advice. I appreciate it. |

If you are running Win98, IE6 can be really problematic. I recommend you revert to IE 5.x for best results. You do this with add/remove programs, IE6, add/remove, restore previous configuration.
